From the 10th to the 12th of April, Team 1519 and fifty-two other New England FIRST Robotics teams packed into the Agganis Arena in Boston, MA for the 2014 New England District Championship. Teams have qualified for the Regional Championship from all over New England; from Maine to Connecticut, achieving
the right to attend by earning district points for commendable performance and prestigious awards.
Ranked 4th in all of New England by district points, Mechanical Mayhem was a key competitor in the competition, placing 6th seed at the New England Championship. During alliance selection Saturday afternoon, our team picked team Windham Windup (3467), a good trusser and powerful defender, to join our alliance along with the Riot Crew (58), an accurate shooter. In the elimination matches, our alliance faced the fourth seeded alliance, comprised of Air Strike (78), the Cardinals (811), and the Who’sCTEKS (716), losing the tie-breaking
match by a close two points.
On top of winning the Safest Pit of the Day Award, Team 1519, Mechanical Mayhem, was honored with the Excellence in Engineering Award, celebrating an elegant and advantageous machine feature. With these awards, our outstanding performance, and the points accumulated from the Granite State and Rhode Island District events prior, our team was overall ranked 7th in all of New England by the end of the event and was awarded the opportunity to attend World Championships in St. Louis, Missouri.
